The prize is intended to promote and recognize the academic and scientific works performed by graduates from official Ph.D. programs of organizations or universities located in any of the Member States of the Pan American Institute of Geography (PAIGH) or by citizens of those states graduated elsewhere. It will be awarded in the general areas of Cartography, Geodesy and Geographic Information Science, including aspects like capture, manipulation, presentation and dissemination.
